Wood is a beautiful substance. There’s something about bringing a piece of nature into our homes and appreciating it. Live edge wood is wood that retains the natural edge of the tree – the edge is the same as it was when it was part of the live growing tree. It may or may not have the bark still attached, but it retains the outermost shaping of the tree. Check with your local lumber yard to see if they have live edge pieces available or if they can get some. If there is a sawmill in your area that’s an even better option. They often deal with the whole tree and may be able to cut you a piece to your own specifications – and at a fraction of the cost of buying a completed piece of live edge furniture. Another more personal options is getting wood from a tree you or a family member or friend owns. Is there a tree in your yard that has to come down? Is a family member having tree work done? Live edge furniture is a way to keep a piece of wood from a tree to which you are connected.
