Wood is the material we see most often coupled with metal legs – it’s easy to work with, readily available, and a great place to start for a first DIY furniture project. But it is so much fun to see what else folks come up with, and this one is pretty unique! Kristi has made a beautiful marble side table with hairpin legs. Instead of screwing the metal hairpin legs to the underside of the tabletop as would be done with wood, Kristi glues them to the underside.
If you’re wondering how to make such a table yourself, Kristi put together a great tutorial, video included, on how she made her table, and we can’t argue with the results! The silver of the metal hairpin legs goes perfectly with the white marble tabletop she chose. Kristi uses this finished piece as a bedside table but of course you could make a marble table with metal legs for any function.
Marble and other polished stone can be found in a variety of styles and sized in both home goods stores and at custom kitchen stores. Marble, granite, soapstone, and other materials are custom cut to make kitchen countertops among other things so you could get a piece there as well. There are also antique tables that were made with marble tops – and sometimes the marble is the best part of the table as the wooden frame often deteriorates first – making it a perfect candidate for an updated look with metal hairpin legs. Thanks to Kristi for sharing her beautiful marble table – hopefully we’ll be seeing more like it in the future, and don’t forget to keep an eye on what other DIY furniture projects Kristi is working on via her blog.
